A new gem has emerged in the town of Newmarket that seamlessly marries history and sophistication — the Postmark Hotel. The doors have officially opened, and we set out to explore the hotel’s new lobby restaurant. Once serving as the community's central post office, this beautifully repurposed building now invites guests to experience its unique blend of old-world charm and contemporary elegance.
Here’s our experience of The Postmark Hotel in the heart of Newmarket.
A Historic Transformation: From Old Post Office to Modern Bar
The building that now houses the Postmark Hotel has a rich history, originally serving as Newmarket’s post office. Today, it has been transformed into a stunning hotel and bar, while preserving its historical essence. Walking into the bar, the high ceilings and original architectural details remind you that this place has a story to tell. The bar, cleverly named “The Stamp,” is a nod to its postal heritage and adds a touch of whimsy to the sophisticated setting. The bar is also our personal favourite touch.
Inviting Decor: Cozy Elegance
One of the first things you’ll notice about the Postmark Hotel is its decor. It's beautiful to look at, with an attention to detail that makes each corner of the lobby a delight. Yet, it manages to avoid the pitfall of being too stuffy. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, making you feel right at home the moment you step in. I instantly felt like it's the kind of place where you can spend hours without even realizing it.
Exceptional Service: Meet Danielle
The Postmark Hotel’s decor and ambiance are complemented perfectly by its exceptional service. The staff here are some of the friendliest and most attentive I’ve ever encountered. If you’re lucky, you might get served by Danielle. She was full of smiles, very attentive and shared stories about the building’s history and upcoming rooftop restaurant. It's these small, thoughtful gestures that make a huge difference and create a lasting impression.
Mature Ambiance: Perfect for Date Nights
While the Postmark Hotel is family-friendly, it really shines as a destination for a more mature crowd. The ambiance is perfect for a sophisticated evening out, making it ideal for date nights or a night out with friends. The menu offers a range of dishes that cater to a refined palate. Think perfect pairings plated in a fun new way. If you are visiting in the evening, we highly recommend the outdoor patio, lifted above Main Street, for a candle lit experience more suited to adults looking to enjoy a relaxed, intimate evening.
Exciting Future: The Upcoming Rooftop Terrace
We’re personally excited about the rooftop terrace that’s scheduled to open in August. The terrace promises panoramic views of Newmarket, with comfortable seating and a stylish bar. It’s designed to be a space where guests can relax, socialize, and enjoy the scenery. We can’t wait to experience it and are already imagining dinners with friends and family, sipping a cocktail and taking in the breathtaking view.
